Here
are a few examples of the Paradise Yachts approach to cruising
security:
- Three levels of bilge pumps: 1st - DC for day-to-day
use; 2nd - Damage control pumps run directly off the main
engines and are
then plumbed
into all four water
tight compartments and 3rd - A manual back-up pump operated from
the cockpit connected into the damage control system.
- The rig and hull scantlings have
been strongly built to exceed the American Bureau of Shipping
ABS requirements.
- Lifelines are 34” (86.6 cm) in height,
anything less is just as liable to trip you overboard as
to hold you on
the deck. 1” (32 mm) diameter
stanchions prevent bending. The lifeline wire end fittings are
attached to the pulpit and pushpit using a solid stainless
steel tab at
each end, not a typical
thin piece of wire rod.
- Handrails strategically placed from bow to stern.
Starting aft the pushpit runs all the way forward
to the mid-ship boarding gates. Handrails are also located
over each compass, in the front of both steering wheels. Additional
handrails are
located
around the aft companionway hatch, on top of the pilothouse and alongside
the combings
for support at the mast base.
- The life raft is stored in a dedicated storage
area located in the transom, where it is both accessible and easily
launched by even the weakest crewmember.

INTERIOR SAFETY
Safety starts in the pilothouse with an off-watch sea berth so that the off-watch
crew can be close at hand in heavy weather conditions or during difficult navigational
periods. Having the navigational equipment in the pilothouse allows you to
see the real world outside, as well as confirm what you see right from the
pilothouse nav area. The Paradise 60 can also be hand steered from the pilothouse
in adverse conditions, keeping the crew out of the cockpit.
There are handholds throughout the interior, along
with non-skid cabin soles.
GALLEY SAFETY
The galley cooks can brace themselves on either tack away from the front of
the stove range. Galley fiddles 3” (90 mm) above the counter top keep
glassware and cookware in place when sailing on a heel.
SEAWORTHINESS
At Paradise Yachts seaworthiness is part design, part system and part structure.
We believe that to really enjoy cruising you need the mental comfort that comes
with knowing that your vessel is going to get you to your destination safely.
FUNCTION
Along with safety and seaworthiness comes function. Every effort
has been made to keep the design and systems simple. This will
make voyaging easier and
less expensive to maintain while minimizing the frustration, which
accompanies complex systems.
